AJK in Support of RTK Employees, Calls for Immediate Resolution on Salaries

3924-title

The Association of Journalists of Kosovo (AJK) stands in full support of the journalists, editors, camera operators, video editors, and all staff of Radio Television of Kosovo (RTK), ahead of Thursday’s protest.

AJK expresses solidarity with RTK employees, who once again, within only a few months, are demanding the salaries they are entitled to under their contracts for the work they have carried out.

AJK hopes that conditions will soon enable the full functioning of the Assembly of Kosovo, allowing the relevant parliamentary committee to approve the budget allocation for RTK. If that does not happen, the caretaker Government of Kosovo must explore all possibilities to urgently secure a similar allocation to the one made in July.

RTK has faced continuous political pressure from the Government of Kosovo for several years, while uncertainty regarding salaries adds further financial strain.

AJK remains committed to ensuring that its members at RTK, and all other employees there, are able to carry out their duties free from interference and obstacles, and in the public interest.

AJK calls on the next government and assembly to promptly adopt a new law on RTK, guaranteeing the public broadcaster full operational independence and providing a permanent institutional home to support its work.
