AJK holds meeting with the Finnish Association of Journalists
Association of Journalists of Kosovo has held a meeting with journalists from the Finnish Association of Journalists.
Journalists from Finland met with the AJK Board Member, Jehona Hulaj and Getoarbë Mulliqi, AJK’s Executive Director.
From the Finnish Association of Journalists, which consists of 300 members, 26 were present for the meeting and they represented all types of media in Finland, such as printed media, television and radio.
Director Mulliqi presented AJK’s mission, work and projects, whereas board member Hulaj spoke regarding the state of media freedom in Kosovo and the safety of journalists.
Mulliqi highlighted that AJK is the only organization of its kind in Kosovo and that its mission is the promotion of freedom of the press, as well as of qualitative journalism.
She stated that in Kosovo there is a pluralistic environment, but that journalists mostly face smear campaigns.
Board member Hulaj discussed the dangers which journalists face during their reporting and their work on the field, specifically in the most tense areas in the north of the country, which continues to be the most critical region for journalists’ reporting.
Hulaj stated that the north of the country is not the only area where journalists face intimidation, threats and attacks, as they face lynching and attacks even when they investigate or report about cases of corruption, or cases which are related to government officials.
Getoarbë Mulliqi, the executive director, concluded this meeting by mentioning AJK’s Journalists in Residence program, which is dedicated to the accommodation of Ukrainian and Afghan journalists.
