The report “Media Monitoring: Analysis of Online Hate Speech Against Women Journalists, Based on Real Comments, Posts and Media Content” was launched, highlighting that women—especially women journalists, continue to be targets of hate speech in the online space.
Findings show that sexist insults, threats, and professional discrediting are a daily reality for many women journalists, particularly when they cover sensitive or taboo topics.
One of the most widespread forms of hate speech against women is still not treated as gender-based violence, often due to hesitation to report it and a lack of trust in institutions.
The report emphasizes that gender-based hate speech is a form of pressure and discrimination against women in the media, manifested especially in online spaces where attacks become more personal and gender-related.
Opening remarks were delivered by Leonida Molliqaj, gender expert and Executive Director of QIKA, as well as by the report’s author, Getoarbë Mulliqi, researcher and Executive Director of the Asociacioni i Gazetarëve të Kosovës.
The event gathered representatives of the media, civil society, and international organizations to discuss the need for concrete action against hate speech targeting women journalists and to increase their safety and inclusion in the media.
