Attacks on media outlets and organizations Prishtinë, 02.04.2026

The Association of Journalists of Kosovo (AJK) strongly condemns the inciting and accusatory rhetoric used by Prime Minister Albin Kurti against the media and journalists.

On Thursday, Kosovo’s Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, used the floor of the Kosovo Assembly to continue his attacks on the media and journalists, referring, among other things, to the “invisible flow of money.”

In his remarks, the Prime Minister stated that “a misinformed citizen is not a free citizen, but a manipulated one, and as reports indicate, this manipulation is coming directly from our enemies, who unfortunately are also finding collaborators within our own country.”

AJK strongly condemns this inflammatory and accusatory rhetoric directed at the media and journalists in Kosovo, particularly the characterization of them as “collaborators of enemies.” Such language represents a continuation of ongoing campaigns by Kurti, his party, and his government against journalists and media outlets, with the aim of undermining independent and free reporting.

AJK calls on the Government of Kosovo to engage in a transparent and inclusive process in drafting the new law on the Independent Media Commission (IMC), to halt political pressure on the public broadcaster RTK, and to immediately cease organized campaigns that denigrate journalists and media outlets.

Kurti’s latest attack on the media and journalists comes just days after a fact-finding mission by the Council of Europe’s Platform for the Safety of Journalists concluded that media freedom in Kosovo has been in continuous decline in recent years.
