The Association of Journalists of Kosovo (AJK) strongly condemns and expresses deep regret that Speaker of the Assembly Dimal Basha has begun his new and highly important role by attacking the media.

During a press conference, Mr. Basha stated: "For six years, online portals and so-called journalists have continuously insulted me in the most degrading ways, even citing sources from Belgrade-based newspapers. Let us not forget that you are using the same sources that lobbied for the partition of Kosovo and for the Serb List."

AJK firmly denounces this unacceptable and highly dangerous rhetoric from Mr. Basha, which reflects a continued pattern of attacks, insults, and accusations he has made against the media over the years.

The Association urges Mr. Basha to recognize the responsibility that comes with his new position as one of the country’s highest-ranking officials, and to show respect for the work of journalists and media outlets.

Rather than resorting to attacks, Mr. Basha should demonstrate transparency regarding his past and respond to all questions and inquiries from the media concerning his activities prior to assuming the role of Speaker.
