Journalists in Residence

Journalists-in-Residence JiR, is a program initiated by the European Centre for Press & Media Freedom – and its main goal is to provide a temporary shelter for journalists facing harassment and intimidation as a direct result of their work.

The JiR program lasts for three up to six months and provides rent-free, travel expenses, visa costs, networking opportunities, a workplace, etc.

Journalists in Residence – Kosovo

On 1 March, the Government of the Republic of Kosovo signed a decree to shelter 20 journalists from Ukraine, in coordination with the European Centre for Press and Media Freedom – ECPMF, and the European Federation of Journalists – EFJ, through “Journalists in Residence”, program.

On 29 March, the government signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Association of Journalists of Kosovo to implement the Journalists in Residence – Kosovo, a program for a six-month period. The overall objective of the AJK throughout this period is to support journalists from Ukraine in continuing to perform their duties as journalists.

On 11 April 2022, The European Centre for Press and Media Freedom (ECPMF) opened the call for applications from Ukraine for the Journalists-in-Residence Kosovo (JiR Kosovo) Programme.
