President Osmani’s Accusations and Insinuations Endanger the Physical Safety of Journalists
The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, continued on Thursday with statements that are deeply irresponsible for someone holding her office, linking “certain journalists” to “the Radoičić group” and to an alleged “coup attempt.”
The Association of Journalists of Kosovo (AJK) strongly condemns President Osmani’s accusatory and inflammatory rhetoric during her press conference, as it directly endangers the physical safety of journalists.
President Osmani once again referred to reports from the Kosovo Intelligence Agency (AKI) to reinforce her allegations against “certain journalists.” AJK believes these statements undermine the legal security not only of journalists but of every citizen in Kosovo.
The AJK calls on the relevant security institutions to publicly address these serious accusations, which serve as open intimidation against journalists and represent an attempt to prevent them from carrying out their duties and asking questions in the public interest.
AJK once again urges President Osmani to abandon this undemocratic practice of attacking journalists and media outlets, and instead fulfill her constitutional role of safeguarding media freedom and freedom of expression.
