Arwa Damon in Kosovo
Former CNN correspondent Arwa Damon is currently in Kosovo at the invitation of the Association of Journalists of Kosovo. Today in Pristina, she held a conversation with journalists about her career and humanitarian work with the organization INARA.
With over a decade of experience from war zones in the Middle East and North Africa, Damon has brought stories from the frontlines of some of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises. She is the recipient of several prestigious awards, including 5 Emmys, a Peabody, and the "Courage in Journalism" award from the International Women's Media Foundation.
After her distinguished career in journalism and numerous successes, Damon transitioned from journalism to founding the organization INARA, which provides medical assistance to children injured by war. During her talk, she shared how the inspiration to create the organization came about and the importance of helping those affected by conflicts. Despite the extreme difficulties and challenges of reporting from war zones, Damon has no regrets about the path she chose:
"I wouldn't change anything I've done. I wouldn't want to live any other way."
Damon now works on independent documentary projects, continuing to shed light on the stories of people affected by conflicts and advocating for those who often remain forgotten.
The event concluded with an interactive session, where the audience had the opportunity to ask questions and discuss with Damon about journalism in conflict zones, the challenges of humanitarian aid, and the power of storytelling for a positive impact on the lives of those affected by war.
This event was organized as part of the Journalists in Residence – Kosovo program, an initiative of the European Centre for Press and Media Freedom (ECPMF), implemented by the Association of Journalists of Kosovo (AGK).
The program is financially supported by the Government of the Republic of Kosovo and the Hannah Arendt Initiative. To date, 19 journalists from Ukraine have benefited from the Journalists in Residence – Kosovo program, six of whom have successfully completed their six-month residency in Kosovo.
