Faton Peci’s Harsh Intimidation Campaign Against TV Dukagjini
The candidate of the political party Vetëvendosje for the municipality of South Mitrovica, Faton Peci, has continued his low and unacceptable attacks against TV Dukagjini through a post on his social media.
Referring to the Exit Poll of October 12, Peci, among other things, called TV Dukagjini the “operational center of the criminal enterprise.”
The Association of Journalists of Kosovo (AJK) considers Peci’s communication to be deeply irresponsible and an accusation with very dangerous potential. It is unacceptable for a politician like Mr. Peci to make such serious accusations against a media outlet, as part of his and his party’s political battle.
The AJK calls on Mr. Peci and Vetëvendosje to urgently withdraw their public accusations against the television station and journalists, as such statements serve as an incitement for continued attacks against them.
The environment for the media to do their work has become much more difficult due to unacceptable rhetoric such as that of Mr. Peci.
Media outlets must be allowed to report freely at all stages of the electoral process.
