The attacker of journalist Burim Zariqi has been found guilty
The Basic Court in Mitrovica has found Dalibor Spasiq guilty of attacking RTV21 journalist Burim Zariqi during the turmoil in northern Kosovo on May 31, 2023. He has been fined 10,000 euros for the criminal offenses of "assault" and "participation in a mob committing hooliganism."
Following the court's decision on February 13, 2025, Zariqi called on journalists to report attacks against them and urged justice institutions to prioritize such cases.
"This decision should serve as an example and encouragement for all journalists to initiate legal proceedings against their attackers because only in this way will they receive the response they deserve. I urge justice institutions to urgently address all cases related to attacks on journalists and the media because only this way can we send the message that journalists' work must not be obstructed, let alone be met with violence," he stated.
The Association of Journalists of Kosovo has welcomed this decision, considering it an important step in protecting journalists and media freedom.
